Brief Project Summary:

The objective of this project is to identify fungal hydrolytic enzymes produced during infection of soybean leaves and to develop ways to stop the activity of these proteins so soybean rust fungus does not access the host for nutrients for fungal growth. Express-induced proteins will be sequenced and characterized in an attempt to better understand how the fungus establishes itself on soybean and how the soybean defends against rust infection.
