Michigan soybean growers have increasingly expressed interest in a coordinated effort to test new management opportunities on a replicated, field scale, strip trial basis. In 2008 a program was initiated called Strip Testing at Regional Sites (STARS) designed to test various soybean management options.

In 2008 they agreed to test a foliar fungicide spray at the R3 stage using standardized protocol and multiple cooperators to obtain comparisons across environments. Thirty four farmers across Michigan agreed to use the protocol for testing the foliar fungicide STRATGO when applied at the R3 stage.
