Increasing soybean yield is one of the most important goals of any soybean breeding program. The maximum yield potential of a soybean variety is determined by its genetics. In a previous MSPC project, Dr. Wangs team examined the genetic architecture of soybean yield in an ex-tensive genome-wide association study by genotyping 1,237 soybean varieties and breeding lines using 52,041 SNP DNA markers. They identified 52 loci significantly associated with yield. By analyzing the allele effect of every locus, they identified the favorable allele of every locus that will increase soybean yield, and determined the constitution of the favorable alleles for every one of the 1,237 soybean varieties...
