The strategic targeting agricultural resources and sustainability (STARS) program is a three-year joint state program built on a decade of federal, state, checkoff and private funding of farmers developing tools that can help improve soybean production, profitability and environmental performance, or in other terms, soybean sustainability.

The STARS program will provide web-based data storage, analysis and reporting tools that farmers can use for record-keeping on their production. The data analysis tool will calculate energy consumption for each step in soybean production. The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years.
