Recently, a field-assessment method based on a colony-forming unit and stem and root severity was developed, and this method has remained the only alternative option for screening and identifying resistance against charcoal rot. This project aims to evaluate different inoculation techniques in controlled environment that can differentiate resistance lines from susceptible ones, to compare and validate the reactions of cultivars obtained through this technique with that of field evaluation technique and evaluate variations among Macrophomina phaseolina isolates for aggressiveness using a greenhouse technique.
