Brief Project Summary:

Illinois farmers have an opportunity to increase their productivity by double-cropping on nearly one million acres of wheat each year. Although yield potential for double-crop soybeans is reduced by late planting, double-cropping soybeans after wheat becomes economically competitive by adding the value of 20 to 30 bushels per acre of soybeans to the value of the wheat crop. The main objective of this effort is to identify resources and research to assist producers with decisions about double cropping with soybeans.

The relative profitability of crops in Illinois varies across years. In the ten years from 2002 through 2011, corn was the most profitable crop in 5 out of 10 years, soybeans...
