Brief Project Summary:

The objective of this research is to identify and promote the use of local, clean, and reliable soy wax in sustainable energy applications. With increasing awareness about the indoor pollution due to toxic gases emitted by paraffin waxes causing allergies and asthma there is a great opportunity for soy wax to replace paraffin wax in consumer products like fire logs, fire starters, hybrid biomass-coal briquettes and pellets. The research in collaboration with a local company Woodshed Renewable, Finley, ND will focus on development of new soy wax based formulations, and characterization of physical properties, burn characteristics, gaseous emissions, particulate matter and energy values....
