Brief Project Summary:

Improving soybean resistance to biotic stress will likely lead to increases in yield. To accomplish this it is critical that we increase our understanding of plant immunity. Additionally, understanding how microbial pathogens successfully breach plant immune systems will improve our ability to control diseases caused by microorganisms. Because pathogens have co-evolved with their host plants, they 'know' the weak links of the plant's immune system that if disabled will result in compromised immunity. In the plant world our understanding of these topics is at a tipping point and this proposal seeks to exploit this to generate soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr] plants with improved resistance...
