Brief Project Summary:

Importing soybean meal has traditionally been considered problematic, if not impossible. Soybean varieties were evaluated from Brazil, India, Mexico, Paraguay, and Taiwan for protein content and anti-nutritional factors and compare them to US soybean meals. The second part of the project used samples in fish diets to compare digestibility for several fish species, including cobia, hybrid striped bass, rainbow trout, red drum, tilapia, and others.

Updated August 20, 2020:
The company ADM has agreed to ship 75 kilos each of soybean varieties from India, Brazil and Paraguay. An import broker from Livingston International is currently handling import paperwork for the varieties. Arrival of crushed soybeans is expected sometime this summer (July – August).

Livingston International was unable to coordinate shipping of soybean meal. Another Import Broker LSIdaho was engaged on August 7, 2018. LSIdaho provided all paperwork necessary for the importation of the SBM from the three overseas sites. A power of attorney for the shipments was signed by the University of Idaho on August 27, 2018. Details of the shipment and locations were sent by ADM on September 6, 2018 and forwarded to LSIdaho. A quote from was received from the importer on October 26th and a sole source bid waiver was processed through the University of Idaho.

A no- cost extension for the project was requested on September 12, 2018 to enable enough time for SBM shipments to clear customs and arrive at the UI during the project period.

LSIdaho was able to facilitate shipment of soybean meal donated by ADM from Paraguay, Brazil and India to the University of Idaho on November 27th.
