Brief Project Summary:
This study is looking for a breeding solution for stinkbug and certain Cercospora, which cause significant damage annually. The expected deliverable is germplasm resistant to CLB and Stinkbug; and genetic markers for stinkbug, CLB, FLS will be available to public and private breeding; new lab screening for CLB resistance, use of these method/markers to screen breeding stock and learn more about fungicide resistance.

Project Summary

This study is looking for a breeding solution for stinkbug and certain Cercospora, which cause significant damage annually. The expected deliverable is germplasm resistant to CLB and Stinkbug; and genetic markers for stinkbug, CLB, FLS will be available to public and private breeding; new lab screening for CLB resistance, use of these method/markers to screen breeding stock and learn more about fungicide resistance.

Project Objectives

1) Develop CLB and stinkbug resistant cultivars and ID germplasm good for all regions. Over 3 seasons already id CLB + stinkbug resistance

2) Entomologists and pathologists will evaluate these lines, define pest/host relationship, characterize pest populations, and further define chemical resistances

3) Cercospora is resistant to group 11 fungicides 3) develop QTLs

4) compare lab method and field to develop a faster screening method for CLB

5) screen Iron Deficiency Chlorosis varieties since higher concentration of iron in the leaf means reduced CLB

Project Deliverables

Germ plasm resistant to CLB and Stinkbug; and genetic markers for stinkbug, CLB, FLS will be available to public and private breeding; new lab screening method for CLB resistance, use these method/markers to screen breeding stock and Pl, learn more about fungicide resistance.

Benefit To Soybean Farmers

Resistant varieties should limit yield losses, thus increasing profit opportunities for soybean farmers.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years.
