Project Summary

The Northeastern United States has quickly become an important market for biodiesel, primarily due to growing market acceptance of Bioheat® fuel. Several states and major municipalities have adopted Bioheat® fuel mandates, including Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York State (downstate counties) and New York City. To ensure proper implementation of these policies and to help the oilheat industry meet the goals in the Providence Resolution of 50% biodiesel in all heating oil by 2030, robust technical education is needed. In addition to Bioheat® fuel, programs to “green” the electrical power sector are a growing opportunity for our industry’s low carbon fuels. Massachusetts and Connecticut recently included consideration of incentives and other provisions for biodiesel in their alternative portfolio standard program and integrated resource planning process, and other states are expected to follow suit.
