Brief Project Summary:
This project includes field work building on previous efforts to learn how stink bugs respond to pheromone-baited sticky card traps in soybean. Past work established the relationship between card-catches and field populations and the next step is to turn that into a trap-based threshold advice. This makes stink bug scouting easier and more efficient. The project also monitors for insecticide resistance in stink bugs and soybean aphids. Both of these pests have developed insecticide resistance to commonly used products in other areas. The third objective to publish a new quick-ID card for the most commonly found leaf-feeding insects of Ohio soybean, along with succinct management advice.

Project Summary

Objective 1 is to perform field work building on the past OSC-funded objective to learn how stink bugs respond to pheromone-baited sticky card traps in soybean. Past work established the relationship between card-catches and field populations and the next step is to turn that into a trap-based threshold advice. This will make stink bug scouting easier and more efficient, which will help producers with management decisions. Objective 2 is to monitor for insecticide resistance in stink bugs and soybean aphids. Both of these pests have developed insecticide resistance to commonly used products in other areas. This objective will proactively evaluate resistance in Ohio and quickly identify suspected cases, allowing mitigation and education. Objective 3 is to publish a new quick-ID card for the most commonly found leaf-feeding insects of Ohio soybean, along with succinct management advice. These objectives contribute to the OSC goals to Drive Innovation and Build Understanding.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years. All pertinent information is in the final report or if you want more information, please contact the project lead at your state soybean organization or principal investigator listed on the project.
