Brief Project Summary:
This project has multiple goals for insect management. It performs field work to determine what soybean planting dates put soybeans at most risk for stand loss from Asiatic garden beetle grubs. This pest is most common in sandy soils and frequently affects corn in Ohio, but can also cause economic loss in soybean, wheat and forage. Efforts monitor Ohio soybean aphid populations for both budding insecticide resistance and tolerant-variety adapted biotypes. The project also aims to publish a new quick-ID card focuses on the various caterpillar species that affect soybean in Ohio, which will be useful for management.

Information And Results
Project Summary

Objective 1 is to perform field work to determine what soybean planting dates put beans at most risk for stand loss from Asiatic garden beetle grubs. This pest is most common in sandy soils and frequently affects corn in Ohio, but can also cause economic loss in soybean, wheat, and forage. Objective 2 is to monitor Ohio soybean aphid populations for both budding insecticide resistance and tolerant-variety adapted biotypes, growing problems in other states for which we need baseline information here. Objective 3 is to publish a new quick-ID card focuses on the various caterpillar species that affect soybean in Ohio, which will be useful for management. These objectives contribute to the OSC goals to Drive Innovation by gaining new knowledge, and Build Understanding by providing education.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years. All pertinent information is in the final report or if you want more information, please contact the project lead at your state soybean organization or principal investigator listed on the project.
