This proposal seeks to enhance local weather and climate data to advance Ohio soybean production, aligned with the Ohio Soybean Council’s Goal to Build Understanding. It is assumed that by increasing Ohio’s near real-time weather and soil observations, we will improve our understanding of the impacts that weather and climate have on soybean production in Ohio. We seek funds to secure a Data Network Technician that will work alongside The Ohio State University (OSU) Extension’s Ag Weather and Climate Field Specialist and State Climatologist Aaron Wilson to assess and upgrade the CFAES Ag Weather System. This improved weather network will allow us to better understand the relationships between local weather conditions and planting delay impacts, disease issues like white mold, and help develop enhanced crop models to improve timing and production.
