We are proposing to further evaluate the new PIs previously identified as showing putative resistance to the soybean aphid. Under laboratory conditions we will determine presence and magnitude of antibiosis (adverse impacts on pest population growth) and antixenosis (adverse impacts on pest selection of a given plant) in the new PIs. Because wild aphid populations vary in susceptibility to the resistance genes in soybean, the selected new PIs will also be evaluated under field conditions. A randomized and replicated small-plot trial will be conducted at two locations. Aphid population dynamics will be compared among treatments. Results of this project will help advance efforts to develop...
