Brief Project Summary:

This project starts Minnesota's portion of a multi-state project to determine the relative importance of genetic and management gains on soybean yield improvement since the 1920s. The study will use 60 historically grown varieties representing all of the decades since 1920 to determine the amount of yield improvement that is due to soybean breeding, such as, disease resistance; and how much is due to various management factors. Knowledge from this study will help direct efforts in soybean breeding programs, as well as, research on management practices.
