Water, Energy and Agriculture Initiative (WEAI) was created in 2008 among the Nebraska Soybean Board, the Nebraska Corn Board, the Nebraska Public Power District through the Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research (NCESR) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and the Agricultural Research Division at UNL.

The goal of the Water, Energy and Agriculture Initiative-Phase 2 is to maximize the efficiency with which water and energy resources are used to sustain economic development in Nebraska agriculture.
