Brief Project Summary:

The objective of this research project is to investigate the feasibility of double and intercropping of soybeans in South Dakota. The researchers will seed an early variety of oats at an 80 percent seeding rate to reduce lodging and at three row spacings. Four varieties of soybeans with maturities of 0.8, 1.0, 1.4 and 1.7 will be interseeded in the oats. The oats will be harvested and Roundup will be applied to burn down the oat stubble.

Three replications of oats-field peas will be planted and will be harvested for forage in mid-June. Soybeans will be drilled using a seeding rate of 180,000 seeds per acre. Roundup will be applied to control weeds after the forage has been harvested....
