Asian Soybean Rust is a serious disease of soybeans that can quickly destroy soybean yields by causing severe defoliation of the entire plant (from 10 to 80% losses in yield in many areas of the world). In recent years, ASBR has moved from South Africa to South America and now into the southern US. There are no resistant varieties and there is little hope of obtaining durable resistance in the near future.
