Brief Project Summary:

The general objective of this soybean breeding program is to develop soybean varieties adapted to Virginia that are high-yielding, herbicide tolerant, nematode tolerant, lower cost of producer and possess other economically valuable traits. The specific objectives include:
~ Developing varieties and germplasm resistance to races of soybean cyst nematode and frogeye leaf spot specific to Virginia.
~ Developing superior germplasm and varieties with modified oil quality, higher protein content, enhanced quality for feed and foods, and other value-added traits.
~ Adapting new technologies (marker assisted selection) to enhance the effectiveness of plant breeding.
