Brief Project Summary:

Soybean rust, caused by the fungus Phakopsora pachyrhizi, has been found in Alabama since 2004, reaching all 67 counties in 2009. Predictions once indicated that yield losses from soybean rust could reach 50% in the southeastern U.S., but we have found that it can be managed effectively with fungicides. Other foliar diseases, such as Aerial Web Blight in 2010, and Target Spot in 2007, can cause significant damage to soybeans in the absence of soybean rust when weather conditions favor development.
