This project continues the breeding and development of Minnesota-adapted varieties with resistance to soybean cyst nematode (SCN) through traditional and molecular breeding techniques. This project will implement DNA marker technology that quickly and efficiently identifies SCN resistant lines early in the breeding program. Another objective is to expand GoldenGate technology to discover new markers that tag genes for novel forms of SCN resistance or tolerance, as well as, resistance to other soybean pathogens. Three new SCN resistant varieties will be released in 2013.
