Brief Project Summary:

Previous research indicates that the commonly used potash fertilizer, muriate of potash (potassium chloride), can increase losses to soybean seedling diseases, reduce plant growth and reduce soybean yield. Other studies suggested that this may be due to a loss of root calcium in very young seedlings that occurs with the application of a chloride salt. This project seeks to determine whether the seedling diseases of soybeans that receive muriate of potash may be reduced with an increase in seedling root calcium. Efforts evaluate sources of supplementary calcium in laboratory and greenhouse tests and evaluate calcium-supplemented seed treatments in-field.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years. And financial information after seven years. All pertinent information is in the final report or if you want more information, please contact the project lead at your state soybean organization or principal investigator listed on the project.
