Achieving the objectives:
• 14,350 progeny rows of T322 plants were planted and grown in Ames over the summer. Putative mutant plants containing germinal revertants (identified by having only purple flowers) and mutable plants (identified by variegated flowers) were selected and tagged.
• 7,711 germinal revertants were identified. Leaf tissue samples (5,472) were harvested and the DNA is being prepared to look for variants in oil and lipid biosynthesis pathways.
• The threshing of the 10,696 soybean plants with variegated flowers is ongoing; approximately 4,000 plants have been completed. These plants will be used in the next generation to identify possible germinal revertants.
• Work continues to identify Tgm9 insertion sites via sequencing of plants with only purple flowers. There are over 500 plants to be sequenced. Once these are completed, the sequence information along with seeds of mutants will be made available to the community.
Not achieving objectives:
• All year one objectives are expected to be completed, however many longer term objectives will not be completed as the project funding was not continued in FY15.
