Brief Project Summary:

Soilborne diseases caused by oomycete and fungal pathogens, including Phytophthora sojae, Pythium ultimum, Pythium irregulare, and Fusarium graminearum, have been a major limitation to soybean production. The goal of this project is to further evaluate the resistance of novel Rps genes/alleles, their similarities or differences, and to identify QTLs associated with resistance to these fungal pathogens. Project objectives include evaluation of the resistance spectrum of novel Rps genes to a collection of P. sojae isolates and comparison of defined Rps gene regions; evaluate soybean germplasm for resistance to predominant races of these pathogens; identification of QTLs with underlying resistance to these pathogens by association and QTL mapping; identification of underlying resistance by candidate gene approach and Bulked Segregant RNA-Seq (BSR-Seq) and parental RNA-Seq analyses.
