Brief Project Summary:

This project expands on work supported by the US Soy Board to demonstrate, development and promote soy optimized feeds for shrimp. The promoted technologies and feeding protocols will be transferred to global partners with an emphasis on commercial oriented outputs to promote increased demand of soy products.

Results-oriented research and demonstration will be used to promote soy-optimized feeds for shrimp. Results will directly be transferred through publications, presentation and USSEC experts working with the industry in South East Asia and Latin America to increase the inclusion of soybean meal in shrimp feeds. Final Project Results

The proposed research is based on cooperation with a commercial feed manufacturer and utilizes commercial procedures. Hence, results are directly applicable to the commercial industry and represent applied research. The continued promotion sustainable soybean meal, demonstration of new technologies in combination with soy-optimized feed formulations will promote market acceptance of soy-based feeds as well as technologies that have been shown to improve production. In both cases, this will increase the market demand for soybean meal.

We have clearly identified advantages to automated feeding systems which have reduced the time to market through improved growth rates. This translates to more shrimp produced per unit area which corresponds to an increase feed demand. By using a commercially manufactured soy-optimized feed formulation produced by a commercial mill also helps demonstrate the commercial viability of these feeds.

The United Soybean Research Retention policy will display final reports with the project once completed but working files will be purged after three years.
