Brief Project Summary:

Soybean cyst nematode is the most devastating soybean pest worldwide, nation-wide and locally. Most SCN-resistant soybean varieties have been developed mainly from two sources, PI 88788 and Peking, and they are losing effectiveness due to shifts in SCN races. This research uses a novel SCN-resistant source in wild soybean accession S54 to identify QTLs for the development of new and diverse SCN resistant soybean cultivars for the southeastern soybean farmers. The accession shows great resistance to multiple SCN races prevalent in the southeastern region and has different genotypes from PI88788 and Peking at key places. The goal is to develop locally adapted soybean cultivars that possess novel and broad-spectrum SCN resistance.
